NYFW Fall 2014: The prettiest looks from Jenny Packham’s ‘70s glam show
I have a special place in my heart for
Jenny Packham. After trying on two wedding dresses, I fell in love with Jenny Packham’s Eden gown in ivory. Not your traditional wedding gown – this had Packham’s signature bead work all over it and had a distinct ‘20s flair. It still makes me feel happy when I think about it and I’ve been a fan of hers ever since – from
Kate Middleton to
Taylor Swift, her glittering gowns always catch my eye – and apparently actress
Anna Kendrick’s too since she was sitting front row eying up the looks at today’s fall 2014 showing (
Oscar gown hunting, possibly?).
The Brit designer’s inspiration came straight from the ‘70s (how fitting with
American Hustle recently) and the decade’s It girl, Bianca Jagger. “I admire women who style themselves with integrity and wit – Bianca was the Queen of mindful dressing,” Packham says.
Think sequined, beaded tops that light up like a disco ball, silk, wide-legged pants, rich jewel tones of cyan and royal blue mixed with pale pinks and turquoise. And of course, Packham’s gowns – draped in Swarovski crystal dotted mesh lace in caramel, gold and light blue. But the real eye catcher? The pale blue and pale pink ostrich-feather coats – one floor length one calf-length brought a hush to the crowd.
