The "face"—inspiration for the MaxMara Fall 2013 show.

I met up with top M.A.C makeup artist Tom Pecheux backstage at MaxMara just before the models hit the runway.

What’s the inspiration behind this look? There’s no inspiration really, we wanted to create a fantasy with makeup. We wanted to play with it– the clothes are full on—a lot of clothes, a lot of material, it’s a mix of
sport and casual. I wanted to create something fantastic to go with it. I didn’t want the girl to disappear under the big clothes– that’s why we went with a pop of colour.

Can you describe it? Blue and burgundy are the colours we used, nothing else. No mascara, no eyebrows—just two stripes on the eye. We used MAC purple fusion on the eyelid, and a mix of Au Naturel and Style Apparent on the lips. I sculpted the foundation with finger tips to achieve a natural look, and brushed it with an invisible powder to make it completely matte. We didn’t use any blush or contour.
