LFW Fall 2015: Andreja Pejic’s first runway show post-sex transformation
A-list models came streaming down the runway at Giles’ Fall 2015 presentation in London yesterday, each face more recognizable and haunting than the last (the latter was the point of the designer’s 17th century-set collection that evoked a medieval English séance. Pure class.). What was also subtly woven into the grand production–literally between Edie Campbell and Grace Hartzel–was the appearance of Australian supermodel Andreja Pejic. Pejic, formerly the andrgoynous model who famously closed Jean Paul Gaultier’s Haute Couture Spring 2011 show, came out as transgender this past summer and announced that she would be modelling exclusively in womenswear going forward.

Say what you will about rigid traditions of the fashion folk, but they are an all-embracing bunch. Pejic stood out on the runway for all the right reasons: in a gorgeous black satin cape with a bow neck and a high ruffled collar. Off the runway, Pejic will also be starring in Sophia Coppola’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Though we have a feeling that we’ll be seeing more of her this fashion month.
