A place of beauty and leisure, manicured abundance and intimacy, gardens are where secrets transform into meeting grounds and where the evanescence of colour and light creates lasting memories. As we long for gatherings, house artistic director Virgnie Viard offers a glimpse at the better days ahead, one festive silhouette at a time.

“I came up with the idea of a small cortege that would come down the stairs of the Grand Palais and pass beneath arches of flowers. Like a family celebration, a wedding…”says Viard. Although romanticism can transport us anywhere, Viard looks to the French countryside to highlight the intimacy loved ones share during such a ceremony.

Every model – each a member of the bridal party, flawlessly brought Viard’s vision to life. Flower crowns, pastel prints, signature tweeds, tulle skirts, relaxed trousers, boleros and buttoned waistcoats make the 32-piece collection that embodies the esteemed house’s new cool, in keeping with its DNA. It is with the same order and detail Monet had within his garden that Viard curated this sweet escape.

As with every Chanel Haute Couture show, the bride – this one arriving on horseback before celebrity guests and house ambassadors Pénelope Cruz, Vanessa Paradis and daughter Lily-Rose Depp – announced a show-stopping finale in an elaborate ecru satin dress embroidered with strass and pearl butterflies – a symbol of hope and new beginnings.
