The bustling New York City traffic could barely be heard down below as guests began to gather for COS’ first fashion week presentation on a terrace perched high on the Starrett-Lehigh building. Overlooking the Hudson River, the outdoor runway was mirrored and played with both light, movement and the reflections of sky and sunshine, thanks to the perfect New York fall day. The brand partnered with Bureau Betak—known for creating the world’s most extravagant runway productions—with no detail spared to make this event the talk of the week, complete with a star-studded front row including the likes of Emily Ratajkowski, Anderson .Paak and Emili Sindlev.

Known for their tailoring and wardrobe essentials where quality and affordability co-exist, COS brought us some London city vibes matching stylish silhouettes with warmer, woven fabrics for the cooler weather ahead. Overcoats, suits, knitwear and button-down shirts made for strong seasonal basics in beautiful earth tones including camel, off-white and burgundy, without forgetting timeless black pieces perfect for any time of year. We loved the beautiful detailing—oversized cuffs on the trousers, large-brimmed collars, dropped shoulders on coats and blazers—as well as the many coordinated sets that seamlessly go the day-to-night distance.

One would think the crisp lines of the brand’s distinctive oversized looks would be the star of the show, but it was the jubilant-hued accents that got the crowd talking: deep purple, lime, fuchsia and bright orange for fuzzy clutches, oversized scarves, and trendy bucket hats to add a pop to any more understated outfit. The 70s and 90s made their appearance here and there, from grunge-style layering to pastel gradients and zebra prints. Form fitting maxi dresses contrasted with boxy coats and sequins ensemble, making sure every piece had a place just waiting for it in our wardrobes.

Now more than ever, brands are including sustainability as part of their company’s DNA, and this beloved retailer is putting their eco-minded efforts into the fibres themselves. Recycled and/or sustainably sourced, like the Desserto® cactus leather that was used for bags and hats, sustainable materials made up of over 92% of this collection.

In an era where the consumer demands everything immediately, brands have had to adapt to this increasingly fast-paced environment. COS got the memo, and as soon as the runway show came to a close, most pieces were available on their website worldwide, with more dropping as the season unfolds. Now that’s how you take it to the street.
