Evik Asatoorian took the plunge for spring 2016 and drew inspiration from all things aquatic: “the lucidity, the flow, the way that light hits and reflects water,” the designer said before the show. Leather jackets and linen separates flowed like ocean waves down the runway (which was made to look like the surface of a sunlit swimming pool), models donned retro leather swim caps and goggles, and carried utilitarian bags that evoked submarine equipage. The most exciting reveal of the night was a leather jacket designed in collaboration with Metric lead singer Emily Haines. After the show Asatoorian offered an inside glimpse at the structured, fitted jacket, which was lined with dozens of pockets – perfect for the rock star on the move. “I think the final product absolutely expresses Emily’s creativity – it’s so utterly unlike anything else” added Asatoorian.
