When a big-time model like Erin Wasson is the designer, it’s no surprise when the models in her fashion show end up looking more than a tad like her. At Wasson’s F/W 2010 RVCA (pronounced roo-ka) presentation — a relaxed walkabout held at the ABC Carpet & Home store in the Flatiron District — the girls all sported long, loose tresses, either stick straight, punctuated with skinny braids or falling in barely-there waves — like Wasson’s own.

Makeup-wise, “Erin wanted a pretty, slightly ethnic look,” says Charlotte Willer, the Maybelline Global Makeup Artist who created it. After perfecting each girl’s complexion with the appropriate shade of Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse foundation and an all-over dusting of Mineral Power Perfection, Willer imparted a healthy glow via Mineral Pink Illuminator blended high on the cheekbone and up around the eye. The shimmery taupe shade from the Eye Studio Green with Envy quad plus either Stiletto Voluptuous or the Falsies mascara produced the soft, smoky eyes, while the brows were shaped with Define-A-Brow pencil. Looking to inject “a strange hint of intrigue,” Wasson decided that each model should sport a single bold brow overdrawn and feathered with Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner in Black. In keeping with the season’s passion for the neutral mouth, Willer finished each face with Color Sensational Lipstick in Total Toffee glossed with Shine Sensational in Minty Sheer.

The laid-back-with-a-twist beauty vibe was echoed in the clothes themselves. For winter, Wasson’s turning uniformly soft, stretch-infused fabrics into cozy, loose layers of oversized tees and tunics, ankle-wrap leggings, cord cut-offs and long dresses in jersey and thermal knits. Stand-outs include two takes on the boyfriend jacket: one a snowy crushed-velvet smoking jacket, the other a faux white fur smoking that Wasson says feels “like you’re wearing a teddy bear.” The collection was minimally, but strikingly, punctuated with pieces from the professional beauty’s own LowLuv jewellery line: Necklaces strung with chunky silver ice cube shapes, 6-inch cuffs in textured silver and more delicate bangles.
