My ELLE Canada-mandated three-day adventure style challenge: Day 1
I like to think that I’m always game for trying anything new—except for when it requires a lot of effort on my part. And yet when I was dared by ELLE Canada staffers to test my sartorial sense of adventure, I all too readily accepted—because how hard can that be? To be clear, my wardrobe consists mainly of menswear-inspired pieces, including an actual plaid men’s shirt. (My style icon is ELLE Canada’s designer, a dude. Hi, Reggie!) Day 1: The OTT Warrior: "Let me see your outfit!" our features editor Aliyah Shamsher (and coincidentally, editor of this piece) excitedly demands when she finally spots me in the office. I sigh; I’d almost made it through the day without having to switch into my peep-toe leopard booties. Don’t get me wrong, I love those spikey heels in all their impractical daywear glory: It’s just that the flat ankle boots I’m wearing are much more sensible, much more me. In my sweatshirt dress, fitted black turtleneck underneath and simple gold chain necklace, I’m clearly failing at what was supposed to be my over-the-top and out-of-this-world outfit day.
