April 17, 2007: To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI) a gala fundraising event took place at The Carlu which featured two fashion shows: TFI New Labels (where quelque filles, a new designer line by Sarah Nicol and Kelly Dowdall, was named the winner of the 2007 ELLE Canada New Labels Fashion Award) and the Ultimate Platinum Celebrity Runway Show which showcased twenty Canadian celebrities who modeled one-of-a-kind platinum-hued gowns created by TFI members and alumni.

With over 1000 attending guests, many bid on fabulous silent auction items such as the "Editor for a Day" with ELLECanada.com. The lucky winner, Juliana Ker from Toronto joined Online Editor Lara Ceroni for a day of pampering and relaxation at Salon Daniel as well as a chic lunch at Senses in the SoHo Metropolitan hotel. As part of the prize, the winner then wrote a one-page editorial for ELLECanada.com on her experience. Read on to hear more about it!

Juliana Ker, winner of "Editor for a Day" with ELLECanada.com

Fashion has always been something I’ve been passionate about, and for the past few years it has been my dream to become a
fashion magazine editor. So as you could imagine, when I saw the “Editor for a Day” prize being auctioned at the TFI New Labels fashion show I was thrilled! The prize included a day filled with spa treatments at Salon Daniel SoHo as well as lunch at Sen5es with the online editor of Elle Canada, Lara Ceroni. After an intense bidding war with another woman, my persistence finally paid off and I won my prize!

My day began at the beautiful Salon Daniel SoHo where I was warmly greeted by Lara, as well as Daniel Fiorio himself. My first treatment of the day was the Vichy Shower Treatment- a complete body exfoliation under an invigorating five head shower system. As I relaxed under the panel of shower heads, the aesthetician massaged a rich, soothing moisturizer into my skin, leaving it radiant and soft. After the treatment, I was completely at ease and ready for my pedicure. By the time lunch rolled around, I had ten perfectly painted toe nails, and felt like a star.

Lara and I head down to Sen5es, a tasteful and welcoming restaurant with a menu to die for. What was even better than the delicious food however, was the fact that I was having lunch with the online editor of Elle Canada! I asked Lara every question that I had about her job and got insider advice on how to make it into the fashion magazine industry. I left lunch with a full stomach and my confidence and ambition reaching the sky.

After lunch I returned back to Salon Daniel to get my hair cut and coloured by Daniel. Although I was slightly nervous, I was also extremely excited to get my hair done by Daniel Fiorio, who regularly works on celebrities and models. Daniel was very kind and took all of my opinions and concerns into consideration. He gave me suggestions for the cut and colour based on my hair texture, face shape, skin tone, etc. We finally decided on subtle sun-kissed highlights and a haircut that would add volume and play up my natural waves. While getting my hair done, I also received a manicure. I could definitely get used to all this pampering!

Overall, my experience as Editor for a Day was life changing. Not only were the treatments amazing, but I also gained so much valuable knowledge that is sure to help me in my future. This experience was the first step on my journey to achieving my dream of becoming a magazine editor. Now there’s no stopping me. Watch out world, here I come!
