And all the celebs wore Tom Ford to the Oscars…oh, wait.
Forget what the front row told you:
Not all celebs rock Tom Ford – except for Jay-Z and Bey and all the other A-listers when attending Ford’s Fall 2015 presentation at Milk Studios in Los Angeles on Friday. In their natural red carpet habitat, well, that’s a whole other story. Ford, who decamped for Hollywood to show his latest collection this season – still during the regular London Fashion Week calendar, mind you – was clearly aiming to attract celeb clientele two days before Tinseltown’s biggest fashion night of the year by literally bringing the gowns right under their noses. Why else would a designer hop to the opposite coast when important editors and insiders are making their way across the Atlantic with the regular fashion month schedule? For the chance at A-list exposure, that’s why.

A Single Man director. Other Oscar night attendees at the show included Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, and Reese Witherspoon (the only guest who did actually wear Ford to Sunday night’s awards show). So why did Moore – who went on to win her first Best Actress Oscar yesterday – show up in custom Chanel? What went wrong?
Perhaps Ford, who has a home in L.A and is no stranger to the fury of last-minute fittings and dress selections, may have been cutting it just too close to showtime this season. Or maybe he could have just asked his friends for their support? Either way, it’s further proof that this town, as bright and cinematic as the hope it perpetuates, doesn’t take too easily to newcomers. Not even Tom Ford.
