This year, Sabrina Carpenter’s star has absolutely exploded. And, along with her music, we’ve become a little obsessed with her flirty approach to fashion, which we’re calling ‘pop couture’. Unlike It-girls like Kaia Gerber and Hailey Bieber, who favour minimalism, Carpenter has fun with high fashion, blending custom Vera Wang, Miu Miu and Gucci with smaller, ready-to-wear smaller designers. And, of course, platform shoes.

And, while for some, it may feel like she’s popped out of nowhere, she’s actually had a long road to fame.

Like many of the stars popping off in 2024, she started her journey to fame on social media. Back in 2009, she was belting out covers of Taylor Swift and Adele on YouTube (you can watch her very sweet 2009 Picture To Burn cover here). In 2014, she was a cast member on the Disney show Girl Meets World and appeared in the Broadway production of Mean Girls in 2019 (the onset of COVID-19 saw the production shut down, so she had a short run as Cady).

One album and the Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett scandal later, Carpenter found herself on the Taylor Swift Era’s tour, cementing herself into the mainstream as Taylor Swift’s opening act. Being linked to another star on the rise, Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan helped, but it’s her unique Bratz-coded style that’s made an impression.

Carpenter’s style could best be described as “short and sweet.” Frisky, feminine, mini-skirted, and platform-booted, she combines 50s and 60s aesthetics with a Gen Z twist. At 4’11”, the singer and actress has been compared to a Bratz doll, and her commitment to platform boots has earned the style a “Sabrina Carpenter shoes” moniker on TikTok.

While she has been culpable for participating in the piratecore aesthetic, overall we’ve greeted her refreshingly joyful looks with a resounding yes please (please, please).

So, here are our favourite Sabrina Carpenter looks.
