After months of speculation (Erdem and Ralph & Russo were among the front-runners), Meghan Markle chose Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller to design her wedding dress.

On Twitter, Kensington Palace released a statement: “Ms. Meghan Markle’s wedding dress has been designed by the acclaimed British designer, Clare Waight Keller. Ms. Waight Keller last year became the first female Artistic Director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy.”

In keeping with Meghan’s classic sense of style, the dress features minimal embellishment and a boat-neck reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn. The dress features a train and a long sweeping veil, which Meghan paired with the Queen Mary Tiara lent to her by Queen Elizabeth.

Meghan’s 16-foot veil is embroidered with 53 flower and leaf motifs from each of the Commonwealth countries. Her bouquet features forget-me-nots (a not to Princess Diana) and myrtle (a traditional wedding flower dating back to Queen Victoria). The flowers in the bouquet were picked by Prince Harry from the gardens of Kensington Palace.

Waight Keller was the longtime creative director of Chloé before becoming the first woman to head Givenchy. We have a feeling Meghan Markle just kicked off the off-the-shoulder trend for wedding dresses with her refreshing yet feminine and classic choice.
