&OR
Today marks a big win for Canadian slow fashion brands and elegant minimalism girlies.
For the first time ever, Montreal lifestyle brand &OR Collective’s capsule collection of seasonless zero waste garments will be available to shop in-person (and on the eve of the brand’s anniversary, no less).
&OR Collective has partnered with Canadian luxury retailer Holt Renfrew as part of H Project, an initiative which spotlights consciously designed products that often have ties to greater sustainability initiatives or philanthropic causes. In the case of &OR Collective, the brand is getting its flowers for its innovations in sustainability, circularity and technology that aim to disrupt the way the fashion industry produces garments–knitwear, in particular.
The brand’s best selling pieces Skirt 01, Tank 01 and Tee 02 are made using responsibly-sourced cotton yarn and a zero waste manufacturing process called technical knitting which significantly reduces cut-off textile waste, enables greater control and limits overproduction. And to celebrate the collaboration, &OR has released the bestsellers in a “Sedona” colourway exclusive to Holt Renfrew.
“Inspired by the earthy, rustic drama of the Arizona desert, the warm and ultra-wearable earthy red tone embodies the serene yet vibrant spirit of its namesake” shares the brand’s Creative Director and Designer Rosa Halpern.
We love to see independent Canadian brands succeeding, especially ones that are leading the way for more thoughtfully made fashion. As people become more aware of their overconsumption habits, deinfluencing is on the rise and the future of the fashion industry is in question. Brands are left wondering what a sustainable future means for them. But small local independent brands have the benefit of setting themselves up for success from the start. That means more durably made products, fewer releases, more deliberate collections and encouraging circularity. For instance, &OR has a responsible recycling program built right into its brand model. The Collective Continuum, a subset of &OR, has a partnership with NYC-based SuperCircle so shoppers can send pre-loved clothing from any brand that’s no longer wearable to be properly recycled and earn credits toward a purchase.
“After soft-launching last summer with our online store, we couldn’t be more honoured to partner with Holt Renfrew and H Project for this first foray into our wholesale business,” says Kristen King, Founder and Co-CEO along with Katie Green. “Building a brand that is approaching sustainability in this holistic and future-focused way requires diligence and grit, and we’ve seen incredible alignment with the H Project team and the values of the program. We’re excited to be able to reach more consumers and tell our brand story and are excited for where this partnership can lead.”
The Sedona collection along with other pieces from &OR will be available at all Holt Renfrew locations nationwide, with a special focus on the Bloor Street and Vancouver stores.
