Canadian designer Thomas Tait is the first winner of the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize, announced today in Paris. Tait, who’s based in London, studied at Collège LaSalle in Montreal and went on to graduate from Central St. Martins’ famed master’s program. Tait beat out 1,200 applicants for the coveted prize, which includes a grant of 300,000 euros plus one year of mentoring. The 12 finalists, announced earlier this year, included Jacquemus, Simone Rocha and Suno. Tait was one of two Canadian designers up for the prize, including New York-based Canadian Chris Gelinas.
