Q: What are some great new fashions (dresses and heels) suitable for a summer wedding?

A: Dressing for a wedding can be hard, but not this season! For the scoop on what to wear to weddings this summer, I asked Marlene Shiff, stylist and owner of Toronto shop Boutique Le Trou.

“We are in a dress moment,” she says. “Every designer, every retailer, every consumer seems to be focused on the dress. You can find all kinds of colourful party dresses right now. Not prom-style, more sophisticated, but still fun.

“There is a slip-dress silhouette that is very flattering. Past the knee is good for a wedding. Cover with a great shawl, wrap or shrug. Also popular now are rounded, “balloon” bottoms on dresses and skirts. As well, a great party skirt can pair with a camisole or dressy T-shirt to make a summer wedding outfit that has an afterlife. The skirt can be dressed down with a tank and flip-flops later.

“Girls love heels. There are a few kinds popular now. There will always be the stiletto, but thicker heels and rounded toes are very modern. Again, go for colourful. And even playful flats or sandals are suitable for a summer wedding. If you’re showing your toes, colour them now.”
