For spring, it’s all about the details: at least for menswear designer Christopher Bates, whose spring/summer 2015 muse dons camo trousers and luxe Italian fabrics as he heads into next season, looking perfectly at ease in say, romantic Tuscany or on a chic safari (the collection was inspired by Michael Ondaatje’s
The English Patient, after all). For Bates’s tenth collection, he showcased his intimate understanding of what makes men look good–in his case, that’s with casually cool Italian sports jackets, or perfectly tailored in one of his signature Bond-style tuxedo jackets or two-tone dress shirts. It makes sense then that Bates will be expanding into the European market next month; he was made for this. We chatted with Bates backstage after his Spring 2015 runway presentation on Wednesday.
