1. A Matrix moment at Roxanne Nikki Last night, Winnipeg-born
Roxanne Nikki showed a collection fit for rock stars at the Jane Corkin Gallery in Toronto’s Distillery District. Models with severe middle parts and low ponytails walked a makeshift runway to pulsing electro beats in green yeti furs, velvet pants and Matrix-style leather coats. Well-heeled guests, who braved hail and windstorms to sip champagne and see Nikki’s fall collection, tittered when a fashion-forward goldenrod-hued suit appeared on the runway. We love a designer that isn’t afraid to take risks!

2. Haute-tech at Amanda Lew Kee

There was no discernible runway at The Hoxton last night where Toronto designer Amanda Lew Kee‘s Fall/Winter 2012 collection made its debut. But that’s totally fine—there were no models to work it anyway. Say what? Inspired by the proliferation of online fashion films, the up-and-coming designer instead projected video images of a model strutting the catwalk onto white sheets tacked to the venue walls, where the fashion crowd hovered around to see the darkly themed line based on 1940s silhouettes: black fur, leather vests, and LBDs. (There were whispers among the crowd, but it was later confirmed that the sole model was indeed the designer herself.)
