Living in Toronto for the past five years has made me cherish sticky, hot summer days, and despise cold winters. When it snows in Toronto it looks pretty as a picture for about, oh, 30 minutes. Then it turns into sludge — grey, slushy, sludge that wreaks havoc on my Michael Kors boots. So for part of my holidays I decided to go somewhere where I could truly enjoy a snowy day — picturesque Vermont, where everything looks like a Christmas card. I stayed at the
Stowe Mountain Lodge for a few days — a resort where (according to the locals) Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie reportedly spent some time hitting the slopes during the holidays. And the lodge makes it easy to fall in love with snow again since it’s right at the base of Mount Mansfield (the best skiing in Stowe), most of the 312 rooms have views of the slopes and fireplaces, an
on-site spa and shopping, two restaurants and an outdoor heated pool and hot tub. And for a skiing novice like me, they offer loads of classes for skiing and snowboarding.
