Denis Desro, Fashion Editor-in-chief for ELLE Canada Magazine.
On set:
I define themes for our fashion stories, then choose a photographer, stylist, make-up artist, hairdresser and models and give them artistic direction.
Why a military shoot?
Military will be a big trend this fall, from Gap to Gucci. It’s an easy-to-wear trend, perfect for the urban woman. This is go-anywhere fashion.
Inspiration:
Everything and anything: An item of clothing, a colour, music, films, décor, trips.
Best thing about your job:
The fashion of course, the people I work with and the perpetual change.
Definition of style:
To have your own style is to know who you are.
Marla Boeahr, model
On set:
My job is to basically be a human canvas. I get my hair and make up done which usually takes 1-2 hours, then try on outfits. Usually the whole process takes quite some time, so most of my job is being patient.
Best thing about your job:
Traveling the world, meeting talented people and experiencing a variety of unique situations.
Hardest thing about your job:
Traveling alone, being separated from friends and family, the lack of a daily routine.
Favourite item of clothing:
My Haviania flip flops – the only sandals that don’t give me blisters.
Definition of beauty:
True beauty really is found on the inside. The most beautiful people I’ve met are those that radiate with love and devotion.
What sticks out about this shoot?
The team of photographers (Leda and St. Jacques) and seeing them work together.
Inspiration:
People who are genuine and enthusiastic; people who go the extra mile for others, treat everyone with respect, believe in their convictions, and enjoy life to the fullest.
Leda & St. Jacques, Photographers
What sticks out about this shoot?
Despite the rigidity of the clothes, a woman can still look sensual and sexy. A picture is worth… fame and fortune (or at least we hope so!) .
Best thing about your job:
The nature of fashion; that it must be constantly renewed and reinvented.
Inspiration:
Models, art directors like Denis Desro, our love, our cats, everything!
Hardest thing about your job:
Tight deadlines and consequently all-nighters.
Cloé Legault, Stylist
On set:
I research and coordinate clothes and accessories according to the seasonal trends.
What sticks out about this shoot?
Its marriage of severity with femininity.
Inspiration:
Beautiful things.
Favourite Item of Clothing:
Pants. Shopping is… Work!
Best thing about your job:
Creating, the constant variety and the absence of routine.
First thing you notice about a person:
Their shoes.
Definition of Style:
Style is what suits you.
Geneviève Lenneville, Make-up and Hair
On set:
I analyze the model’s physical traits and determine what style of make-up and hair will go with the shoot.
Hardest thing about your job:
Working on location. Windy days are especially hard on the hair.
Definition of beauty:
Photographically, it’s the combination of facial features that make up a harmonious whole.
Inspiration:
Beautiful light, a beautiful face, my life.
About this shoot:
I adored this story. Our model was magnificent, very inspirational.
