Sure, there’s teachers and books, but did you also know there’s
laminated leather skirtsuits and wooly,
oxblood red scarves when heading into the classrooms this fall season? While trig formulas come and go (mostly the latter), nothing stands out more prominently when reminiscing over school memories than those iconic first-day-of-school outfits. Just ask some of the top Canadian designers – we did, and they told us fond tales of Doc Martens and gold penny loafers. Here are their all-time fave first-day-back outfits, plus top
must-try looks this season from the Fall 2012 runways that will stay with you long after the school bells have rung.
Dean and Dan Caten, designers, DSquared2
Old-school fave outfit: "Back in 1982 – our freshman year in Arizona – with the thought of riding horses, we wore white jodhpurs, gold penny loafers and crisp white polos. Naturally, it did not go as well as we thought…!"
Back to fashion 2012: "For sure a rugby striped mink sweatshirt, a cropped pair of tight jeans, something sparkly – either shoes or
sunglasses. Naturally a great bag to tote your books and some colourful crocodile, please."
