To optimize your home’s decor style, all that might be needed are a few small touches. “Right now, we’re getting a lot of inspiration from nature, because it feels good and boosts our serotonin,” says Lydia Thammavong, Head Design, Styles and trends. at Rona. Her office is bathed in natural light and, of course, decorated with care. Green plants and vintage elements adorn the shelves—it’s a skilful balance between luminous minimalism and a comfy cocoon, which Thammavong recommends adopting to feel inspired.

DECOR TRENDS

According to Thammavong, there are six major trends in interior design right now: dopamine decor, which is punchy and bright; antique charm à la British countryside; Old World European-inspired rural chic; modern retro with vintage accents; quiet luxury with a focus on texture and beauty; and, finally, transitional style, which blends classic and contemporary elements. “Paint is one of our best allies when it comes to giving a room a quick contemporary look, whether it’s used on a wall or on an old piece of furniture,” she says. “Soft, warm, neutral, nature-inspired tones are ideal for a quiet luxury or transitional look. Alternatively, tonal and bold shades work well for a vintage, modern retro or dopamine decor style. Pretty cushions or wallpaper, changing door handles and light fixtures or even placing a few plants in lovely planters will also give a room a touch of wow, depending on the style, finish and sculptural character of your accessories.”

BATHROOM OR KITCHEN REVIVAL

Does your kitchen or bathroom need a refresh? These rooms, which required skilled know-how—from tiling to plumbing work—are more difficult to redesign yourself, but it’s possible to give them a fresh look without too much effort. “There’s no need to move fixed plumbing components or carry out major work to give your bathroom or kitchen a quick makeover,” says Thammavong. “To update the decor for a low cost, you can replace the vanity or repaint it. You can also replace the medicine cabinet or mirror, faucets and light fixtures. In the kitchen, you can install a new backsplash or repaint the existing ceramic tile using paint designed for this purpose. You can also replace the countertop, change or repaint the cabinet doors and replace the hardware and faucets, opting for a more contemporary model and finish for a revitalized space.”
