57 years after a California blonde by the name of Barbie came onto the doll scene, Mattel is introducing three new body types: Petite, curvy and tall. Along with the new body types, Barbie will also expand to 7 skin tones, 18 (!) eye colours and 18 hairstyles. The dolls are now available for pre-order.

We should mention that the leggy, impossibly proportioned Barbie we grew up with isn’t going anywhere. The new expanded “Fashionista” range of dolls will be available alongside the original.

We applaud the diverse new range, but we can’t say the same for Barbie’s wardrobe. With a name like “Fashionista” surely these Barbies deserve clothes that don’t look like they came out of a 1998 Sears catalogue.
