Take a vacation with a side of culture.
What’s the next best thing to scoring an invite to the Met Gala? Travelling with one of the Met’s curators to, say, Bordeaux for its beautiful museums or Kansas City for American art and architecture. These are two of the luxurious (and enlightening) art-based vacation packages on offer from the Upper East Side institution this year.
Here’s one way to avoid annoying museum lines: Stay at a 21c Museum Hotel, which bills itself “part boutique hotel, part contemporary art museum” thanks to rotating exhibits in its lobbies. The upscale chain has seven properties across the United States. Best bet: the newest location, in buzzy Nashville, which opened last year.
London-based clothing brand COS has teamed up with artist Phillip K. Smith III (creator of Lucid Stead, above, an old cabin in the Californian desert made seemingly transparent with the use of mirrors) to create an installation during Milan Design Week (April 17 to 22). It’s sure to be the stuff of minimalist dreams.
