When the temperatures reach a steady 20-ish degrees, patio hopping becomes a bonafide Toronto pastime. To get you sitting (and sipping) pretty, we’ve rounded up the city’s best patios, from daytime garden terraces and first-date dives to ones boasting the most epic rooftop views.

The Best Skip-Work-to-Sip Patio: Paradise Grapevine

How does a hooky Friday paired with a couple glasses of wine sound? Paradise Grapevine is your spot. On its back patio you can sip Italian sparkling or the bar’s very own refreshing orange wine (featuring a tantalizing fruit profile of lime popsicles, lavender and mint) with, yes, actual grape vines hanging above.

We tend to think of patios as a place to imbibe, but Cafe 23, a quaint coffee shop just a quick skip from Bellwoods, is totally changing that idea. Take a strawberry matcha latte (plus a toasted-and-buttered St-Viateur bagel on the side) to its tucked-away garden patio, complete with tons of potted plants.

The Best Patio with a Pool: Kost at Bisha Hotel

Californian-inspired fare, summery drinks and an infinity pool on the 44th floor? Count us in for Kost. Partaking in the poolside pursuits is only available to hotel guests but with a fresh-forward menu and the opportunity to swim, we have yet to see a better excuse to book a staycation.

Cool, casual and stocked with a rotating list of craft beers, Three Speed has been a west end institution for over a decade. Its dimly lit, mural-painted back patio that attracts the most laid back locals is a very ideal place to get to know someone new.

The Best Rooftop Patio: The Broadview Hotel

Because the east end always delivers, head to the Broadview Hotel’s rooftop patio for pretty skyline views aplenty. Here, you can share a few seasonally-suitable small plates and a craft cocktail (we love the Dirty Little Secret made with pisco, lime, an herbal syrup and blackberries) all while basking in uninterrupted sunny skies.

Now equipped with an all-weather, retractable roof, the patio at Bandit Brewery — an airy brewpub located at the top of Roncesvalles Village — is the place to order beer-battered cheese curds and a round of pints with pals. Their sour-salty Wizard of Gose just hits different under the sun.

If you’re looking for a patio to be your Saturday starting point, we’d recommend Paris Paris. Situated in the parking lot of a converted auto garage, this wine-and-cocktail bar (with an incredible, all-day charcuterie menu) can be found halfway up the Ossington strip for next-door access to top-tier parks, ace shopping and even more patio options.
