It can be overwhelming to navigate this world of products, media and content—should you buy that moisturizer? What TikTok shouldn’t you scroll past? Is that TV show really worth the hype? To help ELLE Canada readers stay in the know, every month, we’re going to be sharing what we’ve been loving throughout the month—from beauty to clothing to movies. Think of it as the crème de la crème of recommendations.
Moss Cami Unitard, Girlfriend Collective
New year, new me. That can mean many different things depending on who you are, and your lifestyle. If one of your goals for 2022 was to start working out, then this recco is for you. Take your workout routine to the next level with this unitard from Girlfriend Collective. Unitards have slowly been making a comeback after their run in the 1980s, and we’re not complaining! Layer the unitard under your winter gear for extra warmth or wear it solo while doing an at-home workout.

The set of single-use pads helps to eliminate pesky razor burn and painful ingrown hairs. It can also prevent new bumps from popping up. Its superstar ingredients include glycolic acid, salicylic acid and witch hazel which aid in exfoliating, brightening and soothing skin, respectively. You need these for your next shaving session!

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Hydrating Serum, The Ordinary
If the winter blues has got you down—you’re not the only one. But don’t let your skincare routine fall to the wasteside. A walk in the winter sun can help, but make sure your skin is moisturized and plump to enjoy it. The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Hydrating Serum is an inexpensive cure for those in need of intense hydration. This cruelty-free formula can be applied in between cleansing and moisturizing to defeat dry skin.

Foxy Box Wax Bar in Toronto
Popular west coast waxing salon, Foxy Box Laser + Wax Bar arrived in Toronto back in November, but they’re going strong. The shop’s services include waxing, lash tints and lifts, laser hair removal and brow shaping. Not only is it a safe place for people of all genders and identities, the shop is a Green Circle Certified Salon committed to recycling, recovering and repurposing beauty waste to care for the planet. If you’re going in for a wax, their signature Foxy Box Technique™ minimizes discomfort to achieve the best results every time, while cultivating a warm, inclusive environment that banishes shyness—sign us up! Currently, personal care services are open at a limited capacity in Toronto, so now is the time to book your appointment.
The Lost Daughter
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s new film The Lost Daughter is a slow burn, and it’s a mesmerizing directorial debut from the actress. The film stars Olivia Colman (The Crown, The Favourite) as a college professor who is forced to confront her past after meeting a young mother (Dakota Johnson) and her daughter while on vacation in Italy. Her fascination with the woman and her daughter prompts memories of her suppressed memories of early motherhood. At just over two hours, it might seem boring to some, but it’s totally worth the runtime.
Dawn FM, The Weeknd
The Weeknd’s fifth studio album, Dawn FM, came out almost two weeks ago, and we’re still thinking about it. He described the album as a state of purgatory and a journey towards the “light at the end of a tunnel,” which we definitely hear. A standout track is “Here We Go…Again,” (featuring Tyler, the Creator) which may or not reference his rumoured romance with actress Angelina Jolie. The album is a follow-up to 2020’s album After Hours, in theme and also sonically, with a heavy prominence of dance-pop and synth-pop throughout. We can’t wait to see what the Scarborough-born singer tackles next.
Euphoria, Season 2
The cult-favourite TV show is back for a second season and we couldn’t be more excited. With more subtle makeup, stronger character development, and darker themes, no one truly knows where Euphoria is going to end up by its finale, but based on the first two episodes that have been released, we’re waiting in anticipation. Characters like Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer) face new and more complex barriers, effortlessly and accurately showcasing what it’s like to be a teenager in modern society. In Canada, you can watch Euphoria on a weekly basis every Sunday, through HBO or streaming on Crave.
