The Killers opened this year’s Hard Rock Calling festival in London last night (24.06.11).

The four-piece band played to a capacity crowd in Hyde Park and, despite the incessant rain, thrilled the crowd with tracks spanning their entire career.

The group kicked off their set with ‘Indie Rock & Roll’ and followed it up with ‘Spaceman’, ‘Somebody Told Me’ and set highlight ‘Smile Like You Mean It’ from their debut LP ‘Hot Fuss’.

At one point Brandon shared a joke with the crowd asking them why they had bothered to come along to see them.

He quipped: “They wouldn’t let you into Wimbledon or what? What you doing here?”

The track ‘Bling (Confessions Of A King)’ triggered the start of the fireworks which lit up the grey sky at regular intervals, much to the delight of the crowd.

Flowers also performed ‘Moon River’ during another blast of fireworks and the flamboyant frontman was energetic all night and even took on bass guitar duties for ‘For Reasons Unknown’.

After playing ‘All These Things I’ve Done’ which prompted a mass sing-along with the crowd, the band briefly left the stage before returning to perform an encore of ‘This Is Your Life’, ‘Jenny Was a Friend of Mine’ and fan favourite ‘When You Were Young’ accompanied by more fireworks, which have become a tradition at the annual festival.

Earlier in the night, Kaiser Chiefs played a blistering set which included hits ‘I Predict A Riot’, ‘Oh My God’, ‘Ruby’ and new single ‘Little Shocks’.

Other festival highlights included ‘Laid’ rockers James and The Kills, which is comprised of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince, who is due to marry Kate Moss next week.

Bon Jovi headline Hard Rock Calling tonight (25.06.11), while Rod Stewart will close the festival on Sunday (26.06.11).
