Slipknot closed Sonisphere festival in the UK with a “f***ing celebration” last night (10.07.11).

The ‘Wait and Bleed’ group were determined for their last currently scheduled show at Knebworth in Southern England to be both “positive” and a celebration of late bassist Paul Grey.

Earlier in the day the crowd had paid tribute to Paul – who died of a accidental drugs overdose last May – by observing a two minute silence, and the band spoke about him from the stage, with frontman Corey Taylor saying: “This tour and our music is all dedicated to the life of Paul Dedrick Gray. He’s with this band, and he is with us right now.”

The vocalist was also keen to stress the group – which has eight members – wanted the show to be a positive send off for Paul.

Corey added: “This is not a night for negativity, this is a night for positivity. This is a f***ing celebration.”

Slipknot played a 18 song set which drew heavily from their self titled debut and second album ‘Iowa’, including hits ‘Eyeless’, ‘People = S**t’ and ‘Spit It Out’.

Earlier in the day heavy metal acts Motorhead, Mastodon, Cancer Bats and Limp Bizkit all played well received sets, while earlier in the three day event Biffy Clyro and Metallica had played headlining sets.
