Queen have confirmed they will headline Sonisphere festival in the UK.
The ‘We Will Rock You’ group will perform at Knebworth Park in the UK on July 7 with former American Idol singer Adam Lambert taking the place of legendary frontman Freddie Mercury, who died in 1991.
The show is bound to be a poignant one for the original members of the group – drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Brian May – as the venue was also the scene of their last ever show with Freddie in 1986.
Brian said: ”Judging by my incoming mail, this decision will make a lot of people very happy. It’s a worthy challenge for us, and I’m sure Adam would meet with Freddie’s approval!
”And what better place to revisit, and walk those emotional paths than Knebworth? It will be a rush.”
Queen have previously performed with Adam on the final of ‘American Idol’ in 2009, and again last year at the MTV European Music Awards, where they received the Global Icon trophy.
Sonisphere has also announced the other headliners for its 2012 UK event, with KISS playing on July 6 and reformed metal group Faith No More on July 8.
The festival also boasts the only UK appearances of 2012 from Evanescence, Marilyn Manson, Incubus,
Within Temptation and Wolfmother and a line up of acts including The Darkness, Cypress Hill, Refused and The Blackout.
Tickets are on sale from 9am on Thursday (23.02.12) from www.sonisphere.co.uk
