Madonna is starting work on a new album next month.

The ‘Four Minutes’ hitmaker will head to the studio to start work on her 12th studio album, her manager Guy Oseary confirmed today (15.06.11) – teasing she already has an idea for the music direction she wants to pursue.

He tweeted: “Madonna goes into the recording studio next month to begin work on new album.

“She has a good idea of which producers she will be working with… lots of questions about what kind of music it will be – stay tuned.”

The singer herself posted a message in December saying she was itching to start work on the follow up to 2008’s ‘Hard Candy’, and appealing for collaborators.

She wrote: “Its official! I need to move. I need to sweat. I need to make new music! Music I can dance to. I’m on the lookout for the maddest, sickest, most badass people to collaborate with. I’m just saying.”

Madonna, 52, has a long history of choosing the most cutting edge and sought after producers for her records, and has worked with Timbaland, Stuart Price, Mirwais and Pharrell Williams on her last two albums.
