Lady Gaga, Coldplay and Gary Barlow wowed crowds at a one-off charity concert in Manchester last night (17.11.11).

A star-studded line-up took to the stage for the Children In Need Rocks event at the MEN Arena – organised by Take That singer Gary – including Gaga, who opened the show with ‘Born This Way’.

She then played her singles ‘Edge of Glory’ and ‘Marry the Night’ to huge cheers from the 14,000-strong crowd.

Coldplay later closed the show with ‘Paradise’, ‘Viva La Vida’ and Charlie Brown’ and Gary – who performed Take That classic ‘Back For Good’ at the event – admitted he would love to join the Chris Martin-fronted group if he could be in any other band.

He told The Sun newspaper: “If I had the chance to join another band it would be Coldplay, without a doubt. I’d move Chris aside, get him on the guitar.”

The ‘X Factor’ judge – who has three children Daniel, 11, Emily, nine, and two-year-old Daisy – also said he plans time away from Take That next year.

He joked to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I’m taking some time off next year to remind myself who my children are and what their names are.”

Supergroup The Collective – comprised of urban acts Tulisa Contostavlos, Rizzle Kicks, Tinchy Stryder, Rizzle Kicks, Ms Dynamite, Mz Bratt, Labyrinth, Wretch 32 and Ed Sheeran – performed the official Children In Need single ‘Teardrop’.

N-Dubz rapper Dappy, Snow Patrol, Michael Buble, James Morrison, JLS and Elbow were also among the acts performing on the night, but Cheryl Cole, who was due to do a duet with Gary, was forced to pull out with a sore throat.

Gary said: “Cheryl is absolutely gutted she’s not here. It was her one big performance of the year.

“I won’t tell you what we were going to sing because we might keep it up our sleeves for a performance in the future.

“I didn’t want to replace her. That’s why I’ve done something on my own. You can’t get rid of me that easily.”
