Kelly Clarkson’s breakup songs aren’t all drawn from personal experience.

The ‘Mr. Know It All’ hitmaker doesn’t mind being called the Breakup Anthem Queen – as she thinks songs about the end of relationships are “sassy” – but hasn’t had dated enough guys to keep writing laments to her own lost loves.

She told MTV: “I love a feisty song. I like to be sassy. That’s usually a breakup song. It’s really in your face. I just end up writing it more that way because it’s better for mainstream radio.

“A lot of times, if I’m writing, a lot of people think that’s about a guy; it’s not actually about that. It’s more about my work environment. I write ‘metaphorically speaking’ a lot.

“I actually haven’t dated in a while, so there’s no breakup song for me on there.”

Kelly, 29, can relate to her sadder tracks, however, as the pain of one particular breakup with a “loser guy” is still fresh in her mind.

She added: “I have been through one breakup that was real crappy. I think that’ll last me for a lifetime, so I’m good.

“He was just a really loser guy and that kind of whole situation. I don’t know what was wrong with me. I was never in love with him. We’re completely different. I don’t even know why.

“I think that is how lonely you get sometimes, when you’re like, ‘Well, you don’t look so bad.’ That was bad, but I got a lot of songs out of it!”

Kelly’s fifth album ‘Stronger’ is out now.
