It was Shawn Mendes’ night at the 2019 Juno Awards—and he wasn’t even there!

The 20-year-old singer-songwriter led the pack of winners at last night’s ceremony, taking home trophies in five of the six categories he was nominated in, including best artist and album of the year. Because Mendes is currently in Europe on tour, he wasn’t on hand to accept his awards, but he did appear on the telecast in a taped performance of his hit song “In My Blood.”

Other winners from last night’s broadcast include Avril Lavigne for fan choice, Jessie Reyez for R&B/soul recording, Arkells for group of the year and bülow for breakthrough artist. Meanwhile, Post Malone was awarded with International Artist of the year, beating out the likes of Cardi B, Camila Cabello, Travis Scott and Maroon 5.

Canadian star Sarah McLachlan hosted last night’s fête from London, Ont.—her first time in the gig. “Sunglasses at Night” singer Corey Hart was also inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and marked the honour with a performance and emotional speech. “I believe that music and love are the most enduring and powerful forces of good in the world,” he said.
