Eminem and Justin Bieber were the big winners at last night’s (22.05.11) Billboard Music Awards.

The rapper received six honours at the ceremony, taking home the accolades for Top Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Rap Album for ‘Recovery’, as well as Top Rap Song for ‘Love The Way You Lie’, his duet with Rihanna.

Also picking up six awards, Justin was honoured with Top New Artist, Top Pop Album for ‘My World 2.0’, Top Social Artist, Top Digital Media Artist, Top Streaming Artist and Top Streaming Song (Video) for ‘Baby’.

Meanwhile, Rihanna – who took home the coveted Top Female Artist award – Lady Gaga, Usher, Taio Cruz, Taylor Swift and indie rockers Mumford and Sons each won three accolades at the ceremony, which took place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Elsewhere, Beyonce Knowles scooped the prestigious Millennium Award for her contribution to music over the course of her career, and received a video message from a whole host of stars, including Lady Gaga – with whom she collaborated on ‘Telephone’ – Barbra Streisand and U2’s Bono.

Gaga said: “You are so much more than just a pop star or an icon; you represent the dream.”

Bono added: “She makes songs that will live forever.”

Neil Diamond was honoured for his achievements with the Icon Award, while Irish rockers U2 won the Touring trophy.

Audiences were treated to performances from the Black Eyed Peas, Nicki Minaj and a saucy collaboration from Rihanna and Britney Spears, who performed ‘S&M’ wearing bondage-style outfits and finished off the routine by sharing a kiss.
