DJ Fresh is more ”underground” than David Guetta.
The DJ and producer is on course for his second number single in the UK this week with ‘Hot Right Now’ as well as working on tracks with Rizzle Kicks and Professor Green, but says he’s nothing like French DJ David – famed for taking dance music to the US charts – because they have a different approaches.
He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: ”David’s music is much more commercial in the traditional sense of the word commercial, whereas the stuff I’m doing is coming from a different place, it’s a much more UK born underground sound.
”The guys I’m working with come from that world, the UK bass scene, and I’m not collaborating with American pop artists, I’m with people who are the cream of the crop in terms of their crossover appeal.”
DJ Fresh is also upset the BRIT Awards dropped their Dance category in 2004, in favour of a new Best British Live Act category in 2005, and is campaigning to bring it back.
He added: ”It seems absolutely crazy there is no award, considering how many dance music tracks there in the charts, and Skrillex has just won three Grammys, the US is really accepting of dance and bass music.
”I think it’s crazy that they don’t represent dance music and they should really bring that back.”
‘Hot Right Now’ is out now, and if it becomes a number one single will be the first drum and bass track to top the UK chart.
