Brian Wilson biopic being release
Brian Wilson will be immortalised on screen with a new film about his life.
The rights to the former Beach Boys singer’s life story have been secured by producers Bill Pohlad and John Wells who have hired ‘I’m Not There’ co-writer Oren Moverman to pen the script and Bill insists it won’t follow the traditional biopic format.
He said: “I have no interest in making a biopic. What’s fascinating to me is to look at the different elements in his life, like that super-creative period when he was doing Pet Sounds and the later part when he was redeemed.”
The Beach Boys’ 1966 record ‘Pet Sounds’ is widely regarded as one of the most influential albums of all time, but producer Bill insists the movie won’t just be for die hard fans.
He added: “You don’t have to know the music here in the same way you didn’t have to know the math in ‘A Beautiful Mind’. What we want to do is let you experience the story in a personal way.”
Brian battled mental illness – including a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type – following the Beach Boys’ success.
Casting has not yet begun although producers are considering multiple actors to play the part of Brian similar to the format of the Bob Dylan documentary ‘I’m Not There’ which featured a host of actors as the musical legend including Heath Ledger and Cate Blanchett.
