Arctic Monkeys released their new single without the backing of a record label.
The British rockers are currently in a bidding war between two companies but they decided to go ahead and bring out ‘R U Mine?’ yesterday (27.02.12) as they wanted it to coincide with their US tour with The Black Keys, which starts on Friday (02.03.12).
And it seems their gamble paid off as the song was soon trending on twitter and received great feedback.
The band – made up of Alex Turner, Jamie Cook, Nick O’Malley and Matt Helders – tweeted: ”we still trending? R U Mine? (sic)”
One fan posted: ”new monkeys song/video R U Mine. im going to try and form a reaction thats at least slightly coherent bur for now: OMGOMG SO GOOD. (sic)”
Another wrote: ”R U Mine is the best thing I’ve heard in forever. (sic)”
The video for the single features the band driving through the streets and joking around in their car.
While the song seems to be a success, frontman Alex recently revealed he had ”forgotten” how to write a chart hit after the group’s latest singles failed to live up to the ones they released in 2005 and 2006.
When asked about chart success, he said: ”I have f***ing forgotten how to do that. I don’t know what that is any more, it’s a different landscape these days.”
