Amy Winehouse’s parents may make an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

Organisers of the awards show are trying to organise for Mitch and Janis Winehouse to attend the event in Los Angeles on Sunday (28.08.11), where a tribute to their daughter – who died unexpectedly on July 23 at her home in London – will be staged.

Asked if Mitch and Janis would appear, executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic told the E! news service: “We hope so. We owe it to them. It would be amazing.”

Another executive producer, Dave Sirulnick, added: “We’re still working on it. Some pieces are still coming together.”

Upon hearing of the tribute, Mitch said: “Our family is honoured that the VMAs are giving Amy this wonderful tribute.

“We know that Amy’s performance of ‘Rehab’ at the MTV Movie Awards played an important part in Amy’s worldwide success.”

The tribute will be led by Tony Bennett, who worked with the ‘Back to Black’ singer shortly before her death on a duet of the track ‘Body and Soul’, and the tribute will also feature footage of them recording together.

Tony has previously paid tribute to the singer, saying: “It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse, and when you listen to the recording of ‘Body and Soul’, it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known.”
