We're far from the shallow this month.
Boda Skins
The luxury Manchester leather brand has happily crossed the pond to Canada. Their handcrafted jackets–and there are a LOT of styles—are a favourite of celebs, especially the bestseller Kay Michaels, a fitted, cropped style. We’re partial to the slouchier—but just as sexy—Aviator, which is perfect for our chilly Canadian autumns.

Holy Smoke
Kandle’s on fire. Don’t let our terrible pun distract you from the fact that Montreal-based singer Kandle is about to be everywhere. The daughter of 54-40’s Neil Osborne, she has been steadily carving out her own spot in the music scene for almost a decade. Her voice is a dreamy, meandering delight, and her sophomore LP, Holy Smoke, is as dark and moody as a David Lynch movie.
Sophie Buhai Scrunchies
ICYMI: Carrie Bradshaw’s fashion pet peeve is back. But these aren’t the scrunchies of your youth—or of the 2003 Manhattan tourist. The hair ties, in fabrics from silk to patent leather, are high-fashion enough to wear anywhere—even a fancy restaurant in Meatpacking.

Les Eaux de Chanel Paris-Biarritz
“A woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future,” Coco Chanel once said. We wouldn’t go that far, but we will say that your future should include at least one of the heady new scents from the fashion house, inspired by the romance of the routes to the late designer’s favourite cities.

A Star Is Born
The ELLE Canada team will be out-of-office on October 5. The fact that it’s the same date that Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut—a remake of the Hollywood classic dramatic romance A Star Is Born starring Lady Gaga—opens in theatres is purely coincidental.
Bitter Orange
Surely nothing bad can happen when you discover a hole in the floor of your apartment and start spying on/falling for your dreamy downstairs neighbours, right? Nope, nothing at all, as evidenced in Claire Fuller’s third novel, Bitter Orange, which is set during a steamy summer in the late 1960s on a crumbling estate outside of London, England.

Acne Studios x Fjällräven
Two of Sweden’s hottest exports (sorry, Alexander Skarsgård), Acne Studios and outdoorsy brand Fjällräven, have combined design superpowers. The result? A collection of quirky (and cozy) outerwear with a high-end utilitarian vibe.

The Handmaid's Tale
Watch Offred and the gang plié their way through a this-hits-way-too-close-to-home dystopian future in this adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (October 10 to 14). Ballet legend Lila York choreographs.
Leandra Medine Shoes
“Having your day brightened by the simple virtue of what you’re wearing on your feet feels really special to me,” says Man Repeller founder Leandra Medine. We couldn’t agree more, which is why when we have a case of the Mondays, we’ll don a shoe from her textured, colourful collection. .

Guo Pei: Couture Beyond
Long before Rihanna wore that dress to the 2015 Met Gala, Chinese couturière Guo Pei was making equally-jaw-dropping custom looks for clients around the globe. See these works of art for yourself—including the Riri dress but minus Riri—at the Guo Pei: Couture Beyond exhibition, which makes its first Canadian stop at the Vancouver Art Gallery (October 13 to January 20).
Rally Cry
Ready your vocal cords: homegrown quintet Arkells are back with their highly-anticipated fifth full-length album, Rally Cry. And with it: high-energy, often political rock songs that will have you scream-singing along. The album is out Oct. 19.
Roar by Cecelia Ahern
She's made you laugh (Love, Rosie) and cry (PS, I Love You) and once again, Irish author Cecelia Ahern is set to make you feel all the feelings. Her newest book, Roar, is a collection of 30 thought-provoking short stories, each focused on woman at different points in life. The book is also being developed for TV, with Nicole Kidman signed on as a producer, so pick out your dream cast now.
Inscape
If Alexandra Stréliski's neoclassical music sounds like it belongs on the soundtrack for an arthouse film or TV show, that's because…it does. The composer's music is frequently used by award-winning director Jean-Marc Vallée, including Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects. Her beautiful new record Inscape is like nothing else on your Spotify playlist.
