The trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Little Women dropped today – and December can’t come soon enough.

Set for a Christmas release, the film is the eighth cinematic adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel documenting four sisters coming of age in 1860s New England. The star-studded cast includes Saoirse Ronan as Jo, Timothée Chalamet as Laurie, Emma Watson as Meg, Meryl Streep as Aunt March, Laura Dern as Marmee, Florence Pugh (Midsommar) as Amy and Eliza Scanlen (Sharp Objects) as Beth.

Gerwig previously worked with Ronan and Chalamet on Lady Bird in 2017. She drew inspiration from the novel as well as Alcott’s original writings and promises a more modern, feminist take on the classic story.

“Women, they have minds and they have souls, as well as just hearts. And they’ve got ambition and they’ve got talent, as well as just beauty,” Ronan declares fervently at one point in the trailer. “I am so sick of people saying that love is all a woman is fit for! I’m so sick of it!”
