Crazy Rich Asians promises to be a glitzy and glam, super entertaining and swoon-worthy rom-com. And upon opening in theatres today, it also hit a historic, long-overdue milestone: it’s the first studio movie in 25 years with an all-Asian cast.

Its significance has been felt and much-discussed by fans, celebs and the cast. And, not surprisingly, it got deep and emotional. Here are some of the moving messages the Crazy Rich Asians cast has been sharing to celebrate their landmark film.

Constance Wu (Rachel Chu)

Awkwafina (Peik Lin Goh)

Jon M. Chu (director)

Kevin Kwan (author)

This was the moment I knew it was real. When I walked onto the set for the first time after a 22 hour flight and saw @constancewu and @henrygolding standing there in the living room of an old mansion on a hill in Kuala Lumpur that had been transformed into Tyersall Park. Nicholas Young, in his beige linen suit, just as I had written, and Rachel Chu glowing like a beautiful apparition. I wish I could share that feeling with you all–what it felt like to see these characters that I had lived with for so long in my mind and then put down on paper brought to life in flesh and blood by two remarkably talented actors. But I think you will feel it yourself when you see the masterpiece of a film that @jonmchu has made. I want to thank each and every one of you readers for being on this amazing journey with me over the past five years, since “Crazy Rich Asians” was first published. Thank you for reading my books, and for spreading the word to your family and friends, for cheering and support us every step of the way. Without you, this film would not exist. Without you, none of this would have been possible. And so it gives me the greatest pride and joy in the world to announce that #CrazyRichAsians opens everywhere in theaters today!!!
