Based on empirical evidence, our collective television intake has never been higher than over the past few months in quarantine. With the announcement of the 72nd Emmy nominations, here’s your chance to catch up on any of the buzzy shows you may have missed while streaming Tiger King (or just rewatch Succession for a third time) before the virtual awards show airs on September 20.
HBO’s Watchmen swept the nominations, with nods in 26 (count ’em!) different categories. The Roy family also made their mark, with the acclaimed drama Succession receiving noms in every category it is eligible for, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Jeremy Strong and Brian Cox) and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Sarah Snook). Schitt’s Creek is up there as well, with a total of 15 nominations.
Zendaya received a monumental first Emmy nomination for her work in Euphoria, nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category. She is nominated alongside Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), Olivia Colman (The Crown), Laura Linney (Ozark) and Killing Eve queens Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh.
Jimmy Kimmel is slated to host the awards ceremony on September 20 on CTV. Details of how the show will be presented amidst the global pandemic have yet to be announced. Without further ado, the full list of 2020 nominees:
