Sex And The City fans will be overjoyed to hear that Kim Cattrall is confirmed to be returning to the series in the second season of the reboot And Just Like That…

She will be reprising her role as spicy, headstrong and independent public relations expert Samantha Jones, bringing her trademark one-liners and vivacity back to the small screen.

First reported by Variety, Cattrall’s representative is yet to comment on her return. However, it is important to note, we will not be getting the full reunion we had planned in our minds’ eye for Samantha.

For those who may not be aware, Samantha’s absence from the beloved ‘awesome foursome’ has been explained by her jetting off to London for a career opportunity. However, it has felt a bit weird that she’s stayed away so long given how close she was with friends Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis).

Samantha didn’t even return for when spoiler alert Big died, leaving Carrie to handle her grief without one of her closest friends. Strange, indeed.

From what sources say, Cattrall’s return will take place in just one scene, a cameo, which she shot in New York City on March 22. She did not need to see or speak to other stars on the series or showrunner Michael Patrick King.

Instead, she was dressed by costume designer Patricia Field, who did the costuming for Sex And The City, but hadn’t worked on And Just Like That… It appears that there remains a total separation of Cattrall from the franchise, other than this one scene.

The news comes after Cattrall repeatedly denied coming back for the reboot, given she retired her role as Samantha following the second Sex And The City movie. This decision famously created a rift between Cattrall and the cast, particularly King and Parker. Allegedly, Cattrall was not even asked to return to play the role in And Just Like That…, with showrunners instead hiring other supporting roles in the form of Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez) and Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury).

Yet, Samantha stans have always felt that something is missing without her presence on the cult show, which ran from 1998 to 2004.

So, HBO CEO and Chairman Casey Bloys decided to get in touch with Cattrall directly and see if she would consider bringing back her influential character (and her iconic turn-of-phrase) for the new season. Luckily, she said yes.

While this might not be the big return we will be getting from the likes of John Corbett’s Aiden Shaw in season two, it is something that we thought may never happen, and thus, we are over the moon.
