GIRLS season 3 premiered last night: Do you think Adam and Hannah will make it?
I have some serious problems with the relationship between Hannah (Lena Dunham) and Adam (Adam Driver) on HBO’s smash hit
Girls. Last season, Adam fell off the wagon and his character hit a low point during a sexual encounter with his girlfriend Natalia (Shiri Appleby) that could be described (at best) as awkward, and (at worst) as abuse. This season, Hannah and Adam have reconciled, and are happily living together, but there have already been some warning signs that this union is doomed. Here’s why I doubt Hannah and Adam will make it.

1) Adam is openly disdainful of Hannah’s friends. When he finds out Marnie and Shoshanna have been invited for dinner, he complains that he’s not interested in anything they have to say. Later, during the road trip to pick up Jessa from rehab with Shoshanna, he violently turns off the radio while the girls are happily singing along to a Maroon 5 tune. It feels like everyone has to walk on eggshells around him, which indicates a scary volatility level. 2) Adam is just plain rude. He aggressively initiates sex with Hannah in their motel room, while poor Shoshanna is sleeping in a cot at their feet.
Who does that? I cringe just thinking about it. (Side note: Hannah is a terrible person for going along with it and putting Adam’s hyper-sexual needs above her friend’s comfort). What do you think: Will Hannah and Adam make it?
