The delicious way to drink bourbon in the summer
This is the third video in our series of impressive (but actually super simple) cocktail recipe videos. Say hello to the Basil-Infused Brown Derby.
Bourbon has gotten a reputation as the sort of drink that you sip fireside in your mansion on a chilly winter night. But one sip of this basil-infused take on the Brown Derby from Marlene Thorne of Toronto’s Famous Last Words bar and we promise you’ll change your tune. Full recipe below.
Step 1: Pour 1 ½ oz. of Bulleit bourbon into a shaker
Step 2: Add 1 oz. of freshly squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice.
Step 3: Add ½ oz. of simple syrup. (To make simple syrup, combine equal parts boiling water and sugar and let cool.)
Step 4: Throw in a handful of fresh basil leaves.
Step 5: Fill the shaker with ice.
Step 6: Shake the cocktail for 30 seconds.
Step 7: Strain the cocktail into a coupe glass.
Step 8: Garnish with fresh basil.
