5 Non-Alcoholic Drinks to Sip Anytime
These versatile booze-free bevvys will excite your palate and help you avoid a hangover.
by : Emily Latimer- Apr 6th, 2023
Lately, there’s been a real boom in low-to-no-alcohol beverages available on the market, as people increasingly seek out sober-friendly, health-conscious, and tasty beverage options. From faux rosés and phony Negronis to gut-boosting elixirs, here are some single-serving, sober-friendly drinks you’ll definitely want to try.
Phony Negroni, St. Agrestis
Talk about a cocktail dupe. If you love the complex bitterness of an alcoholic Negroni, this Phony Negroni from Brooklyn-based St. Agrestis is a must-try. Expertly balanced and perfectly nuanced, this non-alcoholic take on a classic fuses organic herbs, spices, and citrus to mimic the Italian mainstay. Packaged in a sleek, bold bottle, it’s an excellent companion for all your nighttime escapades. Expect an award-winning blend of juniper, citrus, and floral notes that drinks with the same yummy, bittery taste cocktail aficionados would anticipate, thanks to the added zest of carbonation. (For a Negroni sbagliato, just top with booze-free prosecco.)

Bee’s Knees, Wild Folk
Buzzy and bright, Calgary-based Wild Folk puts honey centre-stage in their Bee’s Knees botanical mocktail. Channel a sunny springtime vibe with tasting notes of lemon and honey, plus red clover, juniper and timut peppercorn. Founder Dalia Koren, long-time chef and restaurateur, is inspired by her passion for gardening and foraging, and it shows in her playful creations. Flavour-filled and simply fun, Bee’s Knees is an easy-sipping riff on a classic. It brings to mind sunshine, pastels, flowers, and even carrot cake due to the herbaceous angelica root. Plus, you can feel good about drinking their small batch botanicals – Wild Folk sources local ingredients and uses earth-friendly practices to keep their drinks rooted in integrity.

Non-Alcoholic Jelly King Dry Hopped Sour, Bellwoods Brewery
No FOMO here. In January, Toronto’s Bellwoods Brewery launched an alcohol-free version of one of their flagship products: the Jelly King Dry Hopped Sour. Delicious and light, this satisfying twist on the original preserves all the best bits of the favourite brew, resulting in a perfectly peachy and blissfully sour beverage that’s begging for a park picnic hang or a laid back kitchen party. The fun doesn’t stop there, for ultra simple drinking, check out their carbonated sparkly waters in grapefruit and mojito flavours. But when it comes to an almost zero-proof beer that doesn’t taste like one, Jelly King reigns supreme.

Crystal Elixir: New Moon Release, Rock Grace
Rock Grace founder Anne Hulett noticed a gap in the market when she was looking for an alcohol substitute that boosted wellness. Where was the health-conscious, yet elegant, alternative to wine and champagne? Honing the power of positive drinking, she created a line of elixirs (rosewater infused with crystals, botanicals, and adaptogens) to look and feel like wine. A true palate-pleaser, this New Moon Release is a play on a dry rosé, blush-coloured with hints of fresh raspberry and a youthful bloom of florals on the nose. Free of calories, gluten, sugar, and sweeteners, this faux rosé doesn’t even have grapes in it. But what it does have is pure rose water and organic raspberries chock full of anti-inflammatory properties.

Bitters & Soda Spritz Aromatic, Hella Cocktail Co.
A delicious ready-to-drink option for literally anytime, Hella Cocktail Co. has got convenient, bitters and soda on lock. In versatile flavour combinations like ginger turmeric, lemon lime, and grapefruit, there’s a totable option for every taste profile. Their Spritz Aromatic features pronounced flavours reminiscent of cinnamon gum, with aromatic bitters including black peppercorns, cloves, and Jamaican allspice. Carbonated and refreshing, they’re completely crushable on their own, or crack a can and pour it over ice for a slightly fancy vibe. To really crank it up a notch, get creative and mix these slim cans with alcohol-free spirits for an elevated mocktail.
