#flowermonday: Wild Thyme
This week’s installment of #flowermonday is a bloomin’ big one! (It’s certainly our tallest – and maybe heaviest so far!) Our flower display spot this week is weighed down with splendid mock orange and peonies, courtesy of
Wild Thyme. We chatted with the lady behind the blooms, Margaret Corrigan, for our weekly dose of floral inspiration:
What is the inspiration behind this bouquet? At this time of year, I’m always inspired by what’s in the garden. So first thing this morning I I clipped some gorgeous mock orange, pretty (but very thorny) roses with just a of hint of colour, maidenhair fern. Plus no bouquet is complete at this time of year without fabulous peonies
What is your favourite flower? It changes from season to season. I seem to fall in love over and over with flowers we only see at certain times of the year….so, that would be blossoms in early spring, sweet peas and lily of the valley in mid spring, of course peonies; dahlias in August and I LOVE big, gorgeous branches and foliages in the autumn. I’m probably missing some but the list is pretty long !
What was your journey into the world of flowers? I studied Political Science but discovered it wasn’t for me. I was living in London UK and one day I walked into my local flower shop and started chatting with the owner. She hired me and basically I swept the floor and conditioned flowers for the first six months. After that I was asked to do the little simple arrangments. I then moved onto working for the in house florist at a big hotel in London. Then I worked at Wild at Heart….still one of my favourite jobs. I loved working there. We came back to Canada, and I worked briefly with another florist and then opened up my own shop.
Tell me a little bit about "Wild Thyme"? Wild thyme opened in 2001. At first we were just a little shop in Leslieville but eventually we started to book a lot of weddings. While I loved my little shop we did outgrow it and eventually took on a studio space to concentrate on weddings and events. In the last couple of years we have expanded our services to include full wedding planning and co-ordination under the banner of www.gorgeousevents.ca.
What do you love about summer in Canada? While I am not a huge fan of the extreme heat….I do love a lovely cottage by a gorgeous lake where you can just slip into the water for a nice refreshing swim…….oh yes….I can feel it now. That’s definitely summer in Canada for me. Oh, and the call of loons gets me every time……goofy I know. But I just love it!
