Like fashion, cocktails change with the season, and keeping up with what’s trendy can be as tricky as stilettos at a garden party.
Here are summer’s most stylish cocktails.
If you like your drinks stiff and your garnishes girlie, then the Sakeriniha is for you. Your preference, when it comes to men, is your own business.
2 oz. gin
1/2 oz. premium sake
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
Sapphire and Ice by Jamie Walker
Who cares about cake when there’s champagne in the house. This cocktail is a lot like the last French queen: bold, a bit excessive and anything but boring. For authenticity, serve it in champagne saucers-the ones said to have been moulded from Madame Antoinette’s perfectly proportioned breasts.
1 oz. Bombay Sapphire Gin
1 oz. sambuca
1 oz. blackberry purée
Combine gin, sambuca and blackberry purée in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled martini glass and top with champagne.
Lever House, NYC
A twist on the classic summer thirst-quencher, this sweet-and-sour cocktail could also be called a Pink Tart-but apparently Paris Hilton owns the copyright.
2 oz. tequila
1 oz. triple sec
1/2 oz. lime juice
1/2 oz. lemon juice
1 oz. rhubarb juice
Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a sugar-rimmed margarita glass.
Daddy’s Girl (a.k.a. The Princess)
Balthazar Restaurant/Hideaway, Vancouver
Be careful with this cocktail – it’s so smooth, you could find yourself charmed by that guy in accounting with the SpongeBob screen saver. And somehow Princess Revenue Analysis just doesn’t sound right.
1 oz. vodka
1/2 oz. melon liqueur
1 oz. cranberry juice
Pour vodka, melon liqueur and cranberry juice into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled champagne flute and top with bubbly.
Named for the explorer, not the pool game, this coconut-pineapple cocktail tastes like summer in a glass. If, after sipping a couple, you find yourself blindfolded and searching for Marco, don’t worry – we won’t tell a soul.
1 1/2 oz. vanilla vodka
1/2 oz. Coconut Bacardi
4 oz. pineapple juice
squeeze of fresh lime juice
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled glass.
