Trekkies around the world are reeling at the news that one of the franchises most beloved newer members has passed away, just a month before Star Trek Beyond hits theatres.

Anton Yelchin, 27, died in a freak car accident at his LA home in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Within hours of the news breaking, tributes began pouring in for the young Russian-American actor, including a hand-written tribute posted to social media by Star Trek director J.J. Abrams, who wrote: “You were brilliant. You were kind. You were funny as hell, and supremely talented. And you weren’t here nearly long enough.”
