Celebrities are not infallible! They feel, they hurt, they post deranged things to their Instagram in the midst of their very public breakups!

I, for one, have never felt closer to newly minted bachelor Alex Rodriguez than when—mere hours before he and former fiancée Jennifer Lopez announced the end of their engagement—he posted a video seemingly dedicated to her on his Instagram Story. The sad altar included photos of the couple, their children, and (inexplicably) their names in a heart drawn into sand. Rodriguez, with the audacity of your average man who’s down bad, even tagged the singer herself. (Though, J.Lo has yet to address the split on her own social media channels.)

J.Lo and A-Rod released a joint statement exclusively to the Today show this morning. It read, ‘We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.’

The announcement comes after outlets initially reported that the two broke up last month. At the time, the former couple addressed the reports with a joint statement that said they were ‘working through some things.’ They were thereafter photographed showing some PDA in the Dominican Republic.

The two first started dating in 2017 and got engaged in 2019. Their lavish wedding ceremony, which was to take place in Italy last year, was put off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
