If you thought only non-famous folk pursued relationships on the Internet in 2020, think again. Countless celebrities have found love on social media—whether they unwittingly DM’d their future significant others, or used the Internet as part of their larger plans for courtship.

In Mandy Moore’s case, social media led to her marriage to singer Taylor Goldsmith, and in Ricky Martin’s case, it meant meeting the eventual father of his two children. As for Zara Larsson, you’ll have to read her story to believe it—seriously.

Scroll down for every celebrity we know of who found love through the power of the Instagram (or Twitter) DM.

Dua Lipa & Anwar Hadid

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in May, 2020, singer Dua Lipa reveals a DM was the beginning of her relationship with boyfriend Anwar Hadid. Answering Cohen’s question of whether she’d ever messaged a celebrity on social media, Lipa replied, “I have a confession to make… mine was my boyfriend, so my current boyfriend. I definitely did that.” Although she admits they had met previously before, the 24-year-old confirms things really did go down in the DMs. “We actually met at a barbecue. But then it carried on into DMs”.

Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas

Even Jonas Brothers are guilty of the occasional DM slide. Sophie Turner revealed to Harper’s BAZAAR UK that she initially met her fiance after he messaged her on Instagram. “We had a lot of mutual friends, and they’d been trying to introduce us for a long time,” she told the publication. “We were following each other on Instagram and he direct-messaged me one fine day, out of the blue.”

They married in 2019 and recently welcomed their first child together.

Sarah Paulson & Holland Taylor

American Horror Story actress Paulson revealed that she met her girlfriend Holland Taylor years ago, when they were both in different relationships—but that they reunited through Twitter.

In a 2019 interview on talk show Watch What Happens Live, Paulson said she and Taylor “breezed by each other” during an event at actress Martha Plimpton’s house years ago, which led to them rekindling on social media. When fellow guest Billy Eichner said “Holland Taylor slid into your DMs?!”, Paulson replied: “She actually did!”

Mandy Moore & Taylor Goldsmith

Actress, singer and ELLE Australia covergirl Mandy Moore met her future husband Taylor Goldsmith, the lead singer of band Dawes, through ridiculously sweet means.

Moore told People in a 2017 interview: “I took a picture of [‘Dawes’] album and posted it on Instagram. Somehow, Taylor saw it and sent a note to me. We started emailing back and forth, then we went on a date and the rest is history. Thanks Instagram, for helping me meet my fiancé!”

Ricky Martin & Jwan Yosef

In 2018, singer and actor Ricky Martin revealed that he met his fiancé Jwan Yosef on Instagram, after he found pictures of his partner’s artwork and decided to message him. Martin said: “I’m scrolling [through Instagram] and I see this beautiful piece of art, and I’m like, ‘Whoa, how cool! Who is this?’ Then I start checking all of a sudden, and I’m like: ‘Ooh, oooh.’ And then I wrote to him.”

As of 2019, the couple share two sons.

Sarah Hyland & Wells Adams

One would expect that being courted by a Bachelorette star would be an unconventional affair—something Modern Family actress Sarah Paulson confirmed when discussing how she met her boyfriend Wells Adams.

In a 2018 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Hyland told the host: “Have you seen those memes of ‘Slide into the DMs’? That. He slid into my DMs.” Adams told the actress, “Next time I’m in LA, I’m taking you out for drinks and tacos,” and the rest is history. The pair are now engaged.

Zara Larsson & Brian Whittaker

Swedish singer Zara Larsson famously tweeted two pictures of model Brian Whittaker in 2015, and wrote: “Who are you, where do you live, how old are you, why are you so fine, how do you like your eggs cooked in the morning?” Subtle.

Within what felt like minutes, Larsson was posing in pictures with her now-boyfriend, and the genetically-blessed couple made their relationship official in 2017. Unfortunately, they split in late 2019.

Madelaine Petsch & Travis Mills

Riverdale actress Petsch first spoke to her boyfriend in January 2017, after he sent her a message congratulating her on her role in the show. While they knew each other through mutual friends, their online chatting soon led to a real-life relationship, which lasted for three years before ending in 2020.

Petsch gold Glamour in 2018: “He’s taught me how to be selfless and how to love, because I never knew I could love like that. I think that’s so interesting. He’s said I do the same thing for him.”
